Sacramento County deputies are working a gunfire incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment authorities were dispersing a large unsanctioned party of multiple hundreds of people.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park shortly before 6:30 in the evening after being notified of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Not long after, a second caller reported concerning a reported physical confrontation breaking out near the park.
A law enforcement helicopter searched from above but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Regardless, it became clear that hundreds of people had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Law enforcement personnel worked to disperse the crowd by surrounding the park and announcing over their public address systems telling the assembled crowd to go home. Nearly 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots rang out. The shots triggered a stampede. Responding personnel quickly moved to locating gunshot victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
Altogether, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — including a female more info and three males each reported to be in their twenties — were airlifted or driven to area medical facilities. Doctors and nurses reported that two victims were in serious condition, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also responded and provided medical assistance those who had been shot prior to hospital transport.
Physical Evidence
The bulk of the shooting was believed to have unfolded adjacent to Cottage Way near the local Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators recovered additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were identified in the metal fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries confirmed that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.
Detainees in Solano County
Intelligence received over scanner radio traffic established that a Kia vehicle was intercepted in Solano County. Four detainees were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for formal questioning. Video evidence established that two individuals had fired weapons.
